About the Superette
Robert Autin, Owner and Executive Chef
Robert is a Lafayette native and descends from Cajun, French, German, Irish, and Spanish ancestors who have been in Louisiana since colonial times. He Attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Medical School in Shreveport, general Surgery residency in Brooklyn, New York, and bariatric/minimally invasive fellowship in Albany, New York before returning home in 2015. Like many from Acadiana, Robert believes that food is foremost among the many gifts our region has to offer. He began cooking, butchering, and smoking meats early on and honors our traditions while always leaving room for innovation and discovery. Acquiring the Acadian Superette was Robert’s first entry into the Restaurant industry, Purchasing it from the famed Lynn Derenthal. Lynn Owned and operated the Superette for 28 years before selling to Robert and even stayed on for 4 years after selling because of her love for this neighborhood institution. Robert Built the patio, fireplaces, smoking equipment and other contraptions so that all of our meats are made in house. He butchers meat, guides the menu, makes charcuterie, roasts hogs and has a blast doing it. Robert loves the Freetown Neighborhood, the home of the Acadian Superette and invests to improve it and adjoining Downtown. He is married to Clare Cook and has two daughters, Mathilde and Cerise. He lacks time management skills, does not understand the concept of “balance” and still practices surgery full time.
